In Bangladesh, an Export Registration Certificate (ERC) is required to export any permissible item. This certificate is issued by the Office of the Chief Controller of Imports and Exports (CCIE), under the Ministry of Commerce. The Export Registration Certificate (ERC) in Bangladesh is a mandatory document for any business entity planning to export goods from Bangladesh. Without this certificate, no export activity can take place legally.

Types of Applicants for ERC Registration

Different business structures require specific documents for the Export Registration Certificate (ERC) in Bangladesh. The three main categories of applicants are:

  • Individual or Proprietorship Firm
  • Partnership Firm
  • Private Limited Company

Required Documents for ERC Application

The documents needed for each type of applicant vary slightly, but the core documents include the following:

  • Trade License (attested photocopy)
  • Membership Certificate from the Chamber of Commerce or a relevant Trade Association (attested photocopy)
  • Original Treasury Challan for payment of fees
  • Partnership Deed (for partnership firms, certified and attested copy)
  • Certificate of Incorporation, Articles of Association, Memorandum of Association (for limited companies, certified attested copies)
  • Passport-size photograph of the applicant

Original documents should be provided for verification, and they will be returned once the process of the Export Registration Certificate (ERC) in Bangladesh is complete.

Steps to Obtain an Export Registration Certificate (ERC)

Step 1: Collect the ERC Application Form

The form is available at the Office of the Chief Controller of Imports and Exports (CCIE). It can also be accessed online through the CCIE website.

Step 2: Pay the Required Fees

The applicant must deposit the required registration fees at the Bangladesh Bank or Sonali Bank (if a Bangladesh Bank branch is unavailable). Three copies of the Treasury Challan must be completed.

Step 3: Submit the Application

The application, along with the necessary documents, should be submitted at the CCIE Office, preferably by 4 p.m. at the 3rd-floor reception room. Ensure to include a recent passport-size photo of the applicant.

Step 4: Receive the Certificate

Once the application and documents have been reviewed, the Chief Controller of Imports and Exports (CCIE) will issue the Export Registration Certificate (ERC) in Bangladesh.

Renewal of ERC

The Export Registration Certificate (ERC) in Bangladesh must be renewed annually, and the required documents for the renewal are as follows:

  1. ERC and ERC Passbook (original copy and two photocopies)
  2. Renewal Application
  3. Treasury Challan for the annual renewal fee

Renewal applications can be submitted to the Bangladesh Bank or the Sonali Bank. The documents need to be submitted in duplicate and attested by a First-Class Gazetted Officer, Notary Public, or First-Class Magistrate.

Processing Time: The estimated time for both ERC issuance and renewal is 4-5 working days.

  • Membership Certificate from a recognized Chamber/Trade Association (original)
  • Valid Trade License (original)
  • E-TIN Certificate
  • VAT Registration Certificate
  • Bank Solvency Certificate
  • Memorandum and Articles of Association (for limited companies)
  • Certificate of Incorporation (for limited companies)
  • Partnership Deed (for partnership firms)
  • Office Rent Deed
  • Two recent passport-size photographs of the applicant
  • NID/Passport of the applicant
  • Treasury Challan (for payment of the renewal fee)

These documents should be submitted with two extra sets of duly attested copies.

Fees and Time Limits

  • Scheduled Government Fee for ERC Renewal: BDT 5,000
  • Processing Time: 4-5 working days
